Being homeless is hard work, includes loss of dignity, increases the chances of illness. It is even worse when temperatures plunge below freezing. Many cities are grappling with their homeless populations, some better than others.

The U.S. needs to put more focus on this issue at all levels, including the ongoing presidential campaign. However the voices of others need to join those of the homeless to effect change. This problem is not going away and only getting worse in cities like New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and many more.

All of us who live in comfortable housing need to push for change. None of us want to be homeless, and neither do homeless or housing insecure individuals.
